About the Position
SARS Enterprise Data Management is looking for individuals with a passion for working in a high-volume data environment to analyze and assist the organization to mitigate risk and fraud. The candidate should be highly proficient in dealing with large volumes of data and the relevant technologies. The individuals must be proactive, forward thinking, and self-motivated. Strong, focused, and experienced Microsoft Power BI developer that to work independently towards designing, developing, deploying and maintaining business intelligence dashboards and reports. The role requires strong technical knowledge and capabilities which the successful candidate will use to integrate and analyze unstructured big data sourced from multiple disseminated databases that enable the building of business intelligence reports and presentations
The candidate must proactively collaborate with the broader integrated team of subject matter experts for data visualization design specifications. Experience with multiple ICT disciplines such as data governance, server architecture, design thinking, system integration, SQL batch scripting, meta-data management and end user mentoring would be an added advantage. The candidate must have the ability to apply data scrubbing techniques that contribute to high quality BI reporting and communicate insights to stakeholders using storytelling with data that ensure the organization satisfies its strategic objectives.
Job Purpose
To ensure effective management of the information life cycle or value chain that includes the identification, analysis and development of information assets and the assessment of business information needs.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualification & Experience Required
Relevant Bachelor's Degree / Advanced Diploma: Information System/ Statistics (NQF 7) AND 5-7 years' experience in Data Engineering / Business Data Intelligence / Data Science , of which 2-3 years ideally at functional specialist level.
Senior Certificate (NQF 4) AND 10 years in experience in Data Engineering / Business Data Intelligence / Data Science, of which 2-3 years ideally at functional specialist level.
Minimum Functional Requirements
- Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate will be an added advantage.
- Experience in Data Engineering / Business Data Intelligence / Data Science
- Intermediate (practical application) technical expertise regarding data processes, data cleaning, analysis, reporting, data models, and database design and testing
- Knowledge of and experience with building and maintaining data analysis services report models.
- Knowledge and experience of creating data analysis expression queries.
- Intermediate (practical application) knowledge of developing dashboards Power BI, visual reports and KPI scorecards and experience using statistical packages for analysing datasets.
- Intermediate (practical application) Data warehouse knowledge
- Be proficient in the application of:
- Basic Data Migration
- Basic Data Visualization
- Business Intelligence Methodologies
- Database Knowledge
- Intermediate (practical application) Programming Skills i.e., SQL, Front-end Web development etc.
- Microsoft skills (Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Microsoft Power BI experience

- Communicate the results of their analysis and findings by using medium to complex data visualisation techniques with both internal and external customers.
- To ensure the availability of existing data analytics solutions (like reports, etc.) by maintaining them as well as improving them where shortcomings exist.
- To research best practices and supports developing the solutions and recommendations for the current business operations.
- To assist in the filtering and ¡§cleaning¡¨ of imported data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
