GreenCape is a non-profit organisation that supports the development of the green economy – one that is low carbon, resource-efficient, and socially inclusive. We assist green technology businesses and investors focusing on green technologies and services to remove barriers to investment and growth.
Our ambition
GreenCape’s five-year strategy aims to be globally relevant in driving the uptake of green economy infrastructure solutions in the developing world context. As such, GreenCape is expected to double in size in the next five years.
Core tasks and responsibilities of the role
We are looking to hire a versatile Communications Graduate Trainee to join our growing Communications team (reporting to the Communications & Publications Manager).
Qualification and education
- Degree in Communications, Brand Communication, or Marketing Management (with digital marketing, events management, and information systems as subjects, preferable).
- Will also consider degrees in Environmental Sustainability / BSc or BSocSci Environmental Sciences if the candidate can demonstrate relevant practical experience, competence, and skills in communication management (though volunteering or personal projects).
Knowledge and experience
- 1-year relevant work experience beneficial but not mandatory.
- Exposure to using online content management tools (social media platforms, WordPress, etc.).
- Exposure to digital marketing campaign management (Google AdWords, digital content campaigns, etc.)
- Exposure to hybrid events management (in-person and online Zoom / MS Teams, Google Meet).
- A demonstrable understanding or interest in the green economy/sustainability/environment / social development.
Competencies and skills
- Ability to work effectively in a versatile team.
- Capable of independent work, taking initiative, and being self-motivated.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – comfortable with developing relationships with stakeholders.
- Purpose-driven and aligned to our organisation's values (Empathy, Integrity & Trust, Ambition & Pragmatism).
- Strong attention to detail.
- Multi-tasking.
- Planning and organising skills.
- High levels of professionalism.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Deadline-driven (effective time management).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Flexibility and the willingness to contribute to other organisational needs when required.
- Adept with MS Office software and the Google environment.
- Able to use open-source design software e.g. Canva (optional)
- Adept with facilitating online events on platforms like Zoom. MS Teams and Google Meets.
- Comfortable with supporting the team with in-person event coordination (catering liaison, venue set up, tech set up), etc.
Contract length and remuneration
This is a contract position. Contract renewal will depend on performance and the HR requirements of the organisation at the time. Contract renewal will depend on performance and the project requirements of the organisation at the time. There will be a three-month probation period for this position.
Remuneration will be market-related, with the recognition that GreenCape is a not-for-profit organisation. Medical aid is offered as an employee benefit (subject to some conditions). Offers made will take qualifications, experience, and level of responsibility into account.
